With all the advances in car security and the technology within our beloved motor vehicles these days, it’s easy to forget that car theft is still very much prevalent in our society.

Here in the UK, during 2020/21, there were over 89,400 motor vehicle thefts across England and Wales. Whilst technological advances increase, so too do the methods thieves use in an attempt to steal your pride and joy.

Keyless entry systems and remote access are now commonplace, but many of the ways to avoid car theft are distinctly low-tech. Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can utilise them to avoid becoming a victim of those deplorable car thieves.

Lock Your Vehicle

It might sound obvious, but one of the most effective ways to prevent car theft to to ensure you lock your vehicle when not using it. Back in the day when you had to physically turn a key in the lock to secure your car, it happened through force of habit, but now most modern cars will have a remote lock.

These days, when you’re trying to get the kids out the car, unload the shopping and remember to collect your valuables from inside, it’s easy to forget to press your key fob when all you want to do is get in the house in one piece.

Whether you’re at home, in a car park or just paying for fuel, lock your car. When you’re defrosting it during the winter months, lock your car! It’s actually illegal to leave your car unattended when warming the engine or de-icing it; so if it’s stolen in this situation, your insurer won’t pay out. Finally, don’t just assume it’s locked. Even if the lights come on, physically check the locks have engaged before leaving your car.

Keep Your Keys Secure

As keyless entry systems become much more common in our vehicles, keeping your keys secure is much more important. No longer is it enough to throw them on the side table and lock your front door. Thieves can now clone the signal from the keys and gain access to your vehicle from outside.

To prevent this, make sure you store your keys as far away from the vehicle itself, but this is no guarantee of success. Your best bet would be to keep your keys in a Faraday bag. A Faraday bag, pouch or box blocks the signal the thieves need to clone your keys and drive your car away. It’s a small change but one which can make a huge difference.

Fit A Tracker

Fitting your car with a tracking device is not only a fantastic deterrent in the battle with car thieves but it also massively increases the chances, should your car actually be stolen, of recovering the vehicle quickly and easily.

We offer a huge range of trackers to suit any budget and will work perfectly on any car. Our team can come and install your tracker no matter where you are in the UK.

We pride ourselves on the fantastic range of trackers that offer the highest levels of security and come with a raft of features that are sure you give you the confidence that, when you leave your vehicle unattended, it will still be there when you get back.
